This is a process that involves utilizing the patient’s immune cells to better target the cancer. The patient’s immune cells are first obtained via a simple blood draw. After some ‘adjustments’ in a laboratory, they are then infused into the patient, essentially giving the pet an ‘amped up’ immune system that is better equipped to fight their cancer.
General Process
A small amount of blood is obtained once the patient is off prednisone and chemotherapy for 2 weeks.
Multiplying and “training” these immune cells can take between 3 and 12 weeks until there is an adequate sample to infuse back into the patient.
- Day 0: Infusion 1
- Day 14: Infusion 2
- +/- Day 21: Infusion 3*
*a third infusion is dependent on the number of cells successfully obtained from the pet.
