Dr. David B. Sachs was considering a career in business or possibly law school when a college buddy intervened and put him on the path to veterinary medicine. Clyde — a Black Labrador Retriever — provided such an unexpected and influential friendship that Dr. Sachs chose to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Upon earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the University of Minnesota in 2000, Dr. Sachs completed an emergency, surgery, and internal medicine rotating internship in 2001 at the Veterinary Referral Emergency Center located in Norwalk, CT, and then joined Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center in Katonah, NY, as an emergency clinician and general practitioner. His dedication and skill-set allowed him to develop a large and loyal client base. He was promoted to Assistant Director and shortly thereafter became the Medical Director and Chief of Staff, responsible for all medical, financial, and personnel decisions at the Center.
After the acquisition by BrightHeart Veterinary Centers in 2008, Dr. Sachs worked very closely with senior management to develop marketing strategies, IT solutions, financial plans, and best medicine practices for the network. Based on Dr. Sachs' leadership ability and performance he was asked to lead the acquisition of a large referral emergency center in Westbury, New York in 2009. He was named Chief of Staff with the same responsibilities as those at KBVC, where he continued his role.
In addition to being the original co-owner of Charleston Veterinary Referral Center, Dr. Sachs served as the center's Medical Director from 2011-2019. “Our vision for CVRC is to provide the highest quality medical and surgical care while delivering an exceptional client experience” says Dr. Sachs. “We work to align ourselves with referring veterinarians in a way that forges strong relationships and great communication.”
A member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) and the South Carolina Association of Veterinarians (SCAV), Dr. Sachs has proudly served his local veterinary community by being on the executive board of the Trident Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA). Dr. Sachs enjoys spending time with his three children Isabella, Oliver and Charlotte, and his rescue laborador, Jerry.
In early 2019, Dr. Sachs accepted a high level position with CompassionFirst Pet Hospitals, the passing the reigns of CVRC Medical Director to longtime colleague and friend, Sophy Jesty.
Dr. Sachs' contributions and leadership to CVRC, the greater Charleston veterinary community, and to his employees, coworkers and friends has shaped CVRC, both to this point and will continue into the future. His leadership and friendship will be missed, but his passion and vision for CVRC will persist.
