Dr. Michelle Barringer grew up in the country about an hour east of Raleigh, North Carolina. From a young age, everything she did revolved around her love for animals. From making her friends play “veterinarian”, rescuing baby birds that had fallen out of trees during hurricanes, to helping around the farm with the cows, chickens, and horses.
Dr. Barringer attended North Carolina State University (NCSU) where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Animal Science. While an undergraduate, she had a wide range of experiences in veterinary medicine that provided a diverse perspective and valuable skill set. When Dr. Barringer began veterinary school at NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014, her original passion was equine medicine. After her second year she decided to transition to small animal medicine. She found herself continually drawn toward emergency medicine and critical care.
After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Barringer traveled across the country to Seattle, Washington to complete a year-long rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery. This year solidified her interest in emergency medicine. She continues to love helping animals and clients during difficult times when they need immediate assistance.
When Dr. Barringer isn’t working she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her Boxer mix, Riggins. She loves traveling, soccer, cooking, and time outdoors in the beautiful Charleston sunshine.
