Patellar luxation is simply movement of the kneecap from its normal location. Correction of patellar luxation involves several procedures and a decision of which procedures is dependent on each individual patient. The procedures commonly performed are trochlear block recession (deepening of the end of the thigh bone where the patella sits), tibial tuberosity transposition (movement of the point of the shin bone and screwed with pins), medial retinacular release (releasing the soft tissues on the inside of the knee), and imbrication of the lateral retinacular fascia (tightening of the soft tissues on the outside of the knee).
