Jaclyn Renner, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), cVMA

Oncology

Dr. Jaclyn Renner grew up in Ohio, spending much of her life in her father’s small animal veterinary clinic. After earning her Bachelors of Science degree in medial dietetics, she continued her education at The Ohio State University, obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. During her undergraduate and veterinary training, she worked as an ICU, internal medicine and oncology technician, where she developed a strong interest in medical oncology. She completed a one year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Northbrook, Illinois, followed by a one year focused oncology specialty internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Renner then completed a three-year medical oncology residency at the Veterinary Cancer Center in Norwalk, Connecticut, and was Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2014.

Jaclyn’s devotion to her patients comes from her experiences with her own pets with cancer. Her philosophy stems from the belief in hope, and improvement in quality of life for both pets and their owners. She enjoys spending the time to ensure all aspects of a pet’s disease is understood, and owners are given all options available. Many clients are surprised by the amount of options available for their pet, and feel a part of the care team when they are able to make an informed decision.

Jaclyn’s favorite part of practicing veterinary oncology is the relationship she develops with each client and patient that she meets, as well as the challenge that each case brings. Every day is different and unpredictable. Although Jaclyn enjoys many aspects of oncology, her particular interests include diagnostic tools and biomarkers for lymphoma, proliferation markers for mast cell tumors, and treatment of osteosarcomas. She has published in the Veterinary and Comparative Oncology Journal on mast cell tumors, and enjoys speaking and educating the veterinary community about the variety of options for diagnostics and treatment of mast cell tumors.

In Jaclyn’s free time, she enjoys relaxing on the beach, watching football (Bear down!!), reading, snow skiing and spending time with her family including husband, son, 2 dogs and a cat.
